Friends of Redcar Music and Arts are coming to the end of their second year. A group of volunteers works together to organise and present musical events in the Redcar area to appeal to as many members of the public as possible.
Our Christmas event saw the welcomed return of Tees Hot Club who entertained us with jazz and blues at our Pie and Pea Supper at the Claxton Hotel in Redcar. All tickets were sold for this event once again. In the spring Redcar Cricket club was the venue for a folk evening when the John Wrightson Band headed the night.
Once again Julie Felix played two concerts for us at Sir William Turner’s Chapel, Kirkleatham during July as part of a tour celebrating her 70th birthday. Both evenings were filled to capacity. We had street entertainment though the bad weather limited the number of performances we could arrange, soup and song matinees in Redcar Parish Church and Dormanstown, and operatic matinees at Zetland Park Methodist Church which have become extremely popular.
We are hoping to provide some entertainment in our local library and also to support a Battle of the Bands competition.
Fuller details of all our events can be found on the diary of events page.
We are open to ideas and suggestions for future events – so please get in touch if you have any thoughts regarding this.
We are grateful to The National Lottery for the support they have given us during this year.
We continue to work closely with Redcar Borough Council.
